Constraining the Skyrme Effective Interactions and the Neutron Skin Thickness of Nuclei Using Isospin Diffusion Data from Heavy Ion Collisions

چکیده
Recent analysis of the isospin diffusion data from heavy-ion collisions based on an isospinand momentum-dependent transport model with in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections has led to the extraction of a value of L = 88±25 MeV for the slope of the nuclear symmetry energy at saturation density. This imposes stringent constraints on both the parameters in the Skyrme effective interactions and the neutron skin thickness of heavy nuclei. Among the 21 sets of Skyrme interactions commonly used in nuclear structure studies, the 4 sets SIV, SV, Gσ , and Rσ are found to give L values that are consistent with the extracted one. Further study on the correlations between the thickness of the neutron skin in finite nuclei and the nuclear matter symmetry energy in the Skyrme Hartree-Fock approach leads to predicted thickness of the neutron skin of 0.22±0.04 fm for Pb, 0.29± 0.04 fm for Sn, and 0.22± 0.04 fm for Sn.

Density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy: a microscopic perspective
We perform a systematic analysis of the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy within the microscopic Brueckner–Hartree–Fock (BHF) approach using the realistic Argonne V18 nucleon-nucleon potential plus a phenomenological three body force of Urbana type. Our results are compared thoroughly to those arising from several Skyrme and relativistic effective models. The values of the param...
متن کاملProbing the equation of state of neutron-rich matter with intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions
Nuclear reactions induced by stable and/or radioactive neutronrich nuclei provide the opportunity to pin down the equation of state of neutron-rich matter, especially the density (ρ) dependence of its isospin-dependent part, i.e., the nuclear symmetry energy Esym. A conservative constraint, 32(ρ/ρ0) 0.7 < Esym(ρ) < 32(ρ/ρ0) , around the nuclear matter saturation density ρ0 has recently been obt...
متن کاملDetermining the Density Dependence of the Nuclear Symmetry Energy Using Heavy-ion Reactions
We review recent progress in the determination of the subsaturation density behavior of the nuclear symmetry energy from heavy-ion collisions as well as the theoretical progress in probing the high density behavior of the symmetry energy in heavy-ion reactions induced by high energy radioactive beams. We further discuss the implications of these results for the nuclear effective interactions an...
متن کاملNuclear constraints on properties of neutron star crusts
The transition density ρt and pressure Pt at the inner edge separating the liquid core from the solid crust of neutron stars are systematically studied using a modified Gogny (MDI) and 47 popular Skyrme interactions within well established dynamical and thermodynamical methods. First of all, it is shown that the widely used parabolic approximation to the full Equation of State (EOS) of isospin ...
متن کاملForm Factor Effects in the Direct Detection of Isospin-Violating Dark Matter
Isospin-violating dark matter (IVDM) provides a possible mechanism to ameliorate the tension among recent direct detection experiments. For IVDM, we demonstrate that the results of direct detection experiments based on neutron-rich target nuclei may depend strongly on the density dependence of the symmetry energy which is presently largely unknown and controls the neutron skin thickness that re...
